What inspires someone to create a new dental product?
Dr. Danny Snyder, creator of the Slate Electric Flosser and co-founder of Slate, found that the majority of his patients were only willing to pick up and use one home care tool in addition to their toothbrush. The only problem was that there wasn't a tool on the market that effectively addressed all the areas of the mouth that our toothbrush misses. So, he decided to fix that! The result is the 3-in-1 tool we all love, a perfect compliment to your favorite toothbrush.
What is your favorite part about the Slate Electric Flosser?
How easy it is to use and how effective it is. The sonic vibrations help the floss pass through tight contacts and those same vibrations assist in removing more plaque and bacteria than floss alone. By sliding the floss head from side to side, the gum sweeps help clean the hardest-to-reach corners of the teeth. The Slate Electric Flosser is a total game-changer.
What made you want to become a Dental professional?
I wanted to help people feel comfortable coming to the dentist. I also loved art and woodworking and I looked forward to creating beautiful and functional restorations for my patients.
What is the hardest part about being a Dental Professional?
Getting people to buy into home care. Once people realize that the majority of their oral health comes down to their daily oral health routine, it makes our job as dentists all that much easier.
What do you wish that your patients knew?
They are in control of their oral health and most bad outcomes are preventable with proper daily home care.
If you could give one dental hygiene tip, what would it be?
Flossing at least once per day can transform your mouth. It makes your teeth stronger, your gums healthier and more vibrant, and gives you better-smelling breath. The list goes on and on.
What motivates you?
Helping patients transform their oral health through education about proper home care. Seeing how happy people are when they finally “get it” is so satisfying.
What is your favorite part about being a Dental Professional?
Being in a position to help people help themselves. When I connect with a patient and they have a desire to change their oral health patterns, I get such a high from it. And the awesome thing is it doesn’t take very long for significant change and improvement to occur.

What do you think is the most important thing about what you do?
Patient education. We spend only a few minutes with a patient every six months or so, but that same patient can take what we teach them and implement it every morning and night and see significant positive outcomes.
